Gunji Diary
23rd June 2018: We woke up at about 6:00 am. Actually, everyone more than twice at night due to the effect of Diamox. Vinod & his team offered Bed tea. Netra & Soma took the Bed tea. Shruti woke up quite early. After brush my teeth we were offered Poha, Dalia with Bournvita. I was quite happy with Bournvita as I took it as the substitute of water. I read in net, that we must take water as much as possible to avoid High Altitude sickness(HAS).
Yesterday, we found that there was a satellite phone inside ITBP camp where phone rate is low Rs.1/- per min. Otherwise, there is an STD booth inside our camp where the charge is too high Rs.6/- per min. So I preferred the ITBP phone. I went to ITBP camp & called Amit & asked him to inform my mom that I was ok. Amit already checked our batch status in net. In the KMVN site every day every batch status was updated with details. So he knew my location.
At about 7:45 am, we started our short trek. We needed to cross the Kali river. So we had to reach the river bed. The trek was quite easy. we ride an iron hanging bridge to cross the Kali river. The Kali river flows very rapidly. Though there was some easy road, we had followed the riverside path. After 1km, there was a straight hilly path. It has very loose dust as well pebble. Due to loose pebbles, I slipped multiple times. I was quite afraid to think that if it was the demo of actual path, then would not possible for me to complete the trek. I also noticed everyone (I mean 90% of our team wore a shoe of Decathlon which is famous for mountaineering) But I did not. Might be my shoe had not proper grip so I was slipping. I was quite anxious at that time. But When I reached the top of the path, I saw everyone was slipping. At that moment I regained my confidence.
After the hilly path, it was a quite plain land. We gathered a plain land where Kali & Gori river handshake with each other. The view was awesome. It took only 1:30 hours to reach there. Here we played a game. We needed to remember each members name. Everyone after some effort was able to remember maximum co-yatris name. It was proved to helpful in future.
After spending some time there some of our group members decided to go to some shop to eat ‘Samosa’. But anyhow the plan was canceled. We came back to our camp at about 11:45 am. Some of the members took their bath. But I did not as I know my body was not familiar with this weather. So bath even in hot water would bring some probs to me.
We took our lunch at about 1:00 pm. The menu was Roti, mixed dal & Rai leaves sabji. I preferred Roti instead of Rice. Then, as usual, I took a small nap & spend the rest of the day leisurely.
