Nepal is a landlocked country in South Asia. It shares the border with China in the north and India in the south, east, and west, while Bangladesh is located within only 27 km (17 mi) of its southeastern tip and Bhutan, is separated from it by the Indian state of Sikkim.

The name of the country is also identical in origin to the name of the Newar people. Nepal lies completely within this collision zone, occupying the central sector of the Himalayan arc, nearly one-third of the 2,400 km (1,500 mi)-long the Himalayas.

Nepal has some of the highest and most challenging mountains in the world, including Mount Everest.

The staple Nepali meal is dal bhat ( boiled rice). Dal is lentil soup and bhat (boiled rice), with tarkari (curried vegetables). The popular fast-food Momo which is a steamed dumpling with meat or vegetable fillings. You will get all types of veg and non-veg food there. But buff is easily available and cheap compared to chicken.

Kathmandu is the largest city as well as the capital of Nepal. The other cities are Pokhara, Biratnagar, Lalitpur, Bharatpur, Birgunj, Dharan, Hetauda and Nepalgunj.

Until 1990, Nepal was a monarchy under the executive control of the King. A democratic movement in April 2006 brought about a change in the nation's governance. The constitution was formed and the King giving up power.

Nepal is one of the few countries in Asia to abolish the death penalty. Nepal is the only Asian country where the possibility of same-sex marriage has been proposed in the high court and in the legislature although same-sex marriage currently does not exist in Nepal.

Delhi To Nepal:

By road: From Delhi, there are two options to go to Nepal by road: either opt Train or Bus.

1. There are lots of trains to go to Gorakhpur. From there, private or share Jeeps or buses are available to cross through the Sunauli border. After crossing the border, buses/jeeps are available to go to Kathmandu.
2. Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) has introduced its "Delhi- Kathmandu-Delhi" International Bus Service which takes 30 hrs. to cover 1250km. The "Service" is operated from Dr. Ambedkar Stadium Bus Terminal near Delhi Gate. Bus fare is Rs.2300/- per person. The bus will halt at three places Firozabad, Faizabad (Uttar Pradesh, India) and Mugling (Nepal). In addition, the bus will also stop at Sanouli (India-Nepal Border) for Customs checking.

By Air: There is an international airport at Kathmandu which is connected most part of Asia.

Some tips for Nepal:
  • Nepal Currency = 1.6 Indian Currency
  • For Indian, no need to convert your currency into Nepal currency. But carry only 100 or less amount of rupees note. All hotels, restaurants, taxi & cab drivers even local shops vendors happily accept it.
  • Thamel is the tourist hub, so the lodging cost is a little bit high near Thamel. Goshala is near the Pashupatinath temple. You can get a lodging option near Pashupatinath also.
  • It is a hub of nonveg, especially buff. However, you will get Indian, Chinese veg & non-veg food easily
  • Taste momo, Nepali thali, Newari dishes instead of Indian dishes
  • The local buses are very slow. Each & every stoppage they just stop their buses until it is filled by passengers or the next bus will make a queue.
  • All the tourist spots are within 7-10 Km circle. So either opt the local buses if you have time otherwise opt private cars
  • After Sunset, it is very tough to get local busses. So plan your itinerary accordingly.
  • Don't believe one's suggestion when you ask for the direction of some places. Ask twice or thrice.
  • Friday is half-day & Saturday is a holiday in Nepal. So Govt offices & schools are closed on Saturday. Sunday is considered a weekday.

    10:00 Kathmandu Darbar Square
    2:00 Patan Darbar Square and Nagarkot View Point.

  • Day 2 :
    7:00 am Nagarkot Chagu Narayan Temple
    8:00 am Bhaktapur Darbar Square, Kopan, Boudhnath Temple
    night stay at Thamel
  • Day 3 :
    Going towards Pokhra via Chandragiri Hills and MonoKamna Temple.

  • Day 4 :
    World Peace Pagoda, Gupteswar cave, Devi falls, Mahendra cave, Bat cave, Bindhyabasini temple, Phewa lake.

  • Day 5 : Started for Jomsom for Muktinath NightStay at Jomsom
  • Day 6 : Goto Muktinath & came back to Pokhra
  • Day 7 : Going towards Lumbini and after visiting, Lumbini will take night bus for Kathmandu
  • Day 8 : KTM Rest day
  • Day 9 : KTM Rest day
Below is our actual Itinerary:
  • Day 1 : Boudhnath, Kopan & Thamel
  • Day 2 : Everest Heli tour, then visited Pashupatinath temple, Kathmandu Darbar Square, Bhaktapur Darbar Square & Thamel
  • Day 3 : Pokhra
  • Day 4 : Our teammate opted the paragliding tour and after that, we went Mahendra cave, Bat cave, Bindhyabasini temple, sunset at World Peace Pagoda
  • Day 5 : Towards Muktinath, Muktinath visit, Night stay at Jomsom
  • Day 6 : Came back Pokhra, Reached Pokhra at 5:00pm
  • Day 7 : Morning visit to Gupteswar cave, Devi falls at Pokhra & then take share cab towards Kathmandu
  • Day 8 : Visited Swayambhunath temple & Patan darbar
  • Day 9 : Shopping day
