Day 8 – Nabi
24th June 2018: As per Plan today we would spend the night in Nabi which is approx 3 Km. It was quite an easy trek again. We had started our trek at about 9:00 am. We reached Rong Kong at about 11 am; We crossed some farmland where they seed mustard, onion. We found “bhurja patra” tree (i.e. Betula utilis is a birch tree). We entered the village with a warm welcomed by the villagers. They asked us to seat in a large ground & served us local potato chips & hot tea.
There were some large solar panel & every home has their own solar panel. The local women & babies were there. One of the yatri Mr. Ashok Radia bought some dresses, notebooks, pen & pencil. He distributed it. Some other yatris gave money to the villagers.
After 1 km of a walk, we reached Nabi. We were welcomed with Lichi Juice by the homestay people. They wore their traditional dress. Here we provided a homestay by the Panchayet Pradhan. It was a different experience. They asked us to take lunch.
The Lunch was roti, sabji, curry rice & a sweet n sour chutney (a type of pickle). At first, we thought it was tamarind. But later came to know it was not. It was made from some local fruit. The taste was amazing. They named it ‘Chilchitti Ki Chatney’. It was the ‘most wanted’ dish. It was so tasty, that I asked them to keep aside for me for dinner. but unfortunately, it all exhausted 😭
We girls were allocated a modern building where the inner part was made of wood. But guys it was totally a stone-made building. There were lots of wooden log in the roof with a lot of holes. The Inner portion of the room was made of mud. It gave the feeling of some ancestral room though it was 2 storied building. All the windows had a large wooden designed cover. All these were man-made.
I was too much tired. I took a nap. At about 4:30pm cultural programme was started. The village people performed their local dance & sang songs. Though the language was quite unknown, it touched everyone. They explained that their surname expresses their village name like the person who belongs to village ‘Gunji has the surname ‘Gunjial’, people from Nabi has the surname ‘Nabial’ & who belongs to Ronkon village has the surname ‘Ronkai’ 😍 How much attach they are with their root.
At the end of the programme, they offered us to take a photo with their traditional dress. Some yatris took the snap with their traditional dress.
At dinner, they include some roti made from their local atta (which is not usual atta that we use to make roti). After dinner, I went for a walk with some Gujrati yatri. The surrounding was pitch dark, but all the stars made the sky like a designed canvas. Some of us were trying to find the Saptarshi Mandal (aka Big Dipper).
We go to bed at about 10pm. At about 2 am, I woke up & went outside. The sky was full of stars. It seemed to me that I can touch them.& the size of the stars is larger than the size of the stars that we saw in our city. It was an amazing experience.
