Day 2 - ITBP Hospital

18th June: As per the plan, today I need to visit the ITBP hospital near Batra Hospital at about 9am. I took the bus from Badarpur & reached there at about 9:30am. After entering the hospital the gatekeeper asked to submit the photo identity card. Pan/Driving Licence/Aadhar card is valid. After submitting the card, I asked the venue. It was approx 500mt inside the campus. The person whom I asked also went to the hospital. He offered me to go with him. He had his own car.  He along with his wife opted the Nathula route for KMY. After reaching the hospital main campus we were asked to go to some particular room. There were two separate rooms for Nathula & Lipulekh route yatries.

After entering the particular room I came to know some part of the briefing is done. people were waiting for ITBP medical test. In the meantime, I met our LO Narayan Kutty from Trivandrum. I came to know that there are 2 doctors on our team &  two Bengali girls also. ITBP person also offered Tea/coffee also. Some NGO provided some medical kit which I had collected from Dewan Ram Ji as I was late.

After an hour of waiting, ITBP medical test was starting. This time, I thanked my parents as they gave me the name which starts with the letter ‘D’. I got the chance to thanked my parents, several times for the same, in this expedition. So after 15 people, my name was called.

As usual, the first question was :
‘your age is XX..Are you sure?’
‘It looks that you are still in your college…What are you doing?’

I have no option or intention to hide my age…. but every time I had faced this question whenever I met new people since my college days. As my all reports are okay, the doctor only checked the BP & declared me as ‘Fit’. Then KMVN person asked to take lunch. It was an awesome lunch. All thing was done within 1:30pm. I asked the LO “when KMVN will declare the confirm yatri list?” He did not have any idea regarding it. we exchanged our contact number & asked him to inform me whenever he would get any information.

I had to attend the office as till that time I did not confirm my manager regarding the leaves. Also, I had requested my client for rescheduling the Tuesday weekly call to today. So I took the bus & tried to reach the office as soon as possible.

After reaching office I had applied for leaves. Talked to my manager & project manager. There was no client call scheduled for the day, so decided to take the half day leave. I called my husband & decided to go to Sadar Bazar or Delhi Cant. to buy the bag.

From Noida to reach Delhi Cant usually takes 1.5 hrs. We reached Delhi cant at about 5:15pm. We had visited 4-5 bag shops & getting confused regarding the quality of the bag. I knew that I didn’t need to carry the bag sack by my own. So the main requirement was that it must be enough strong to carry 20-25 kg. The range was something Rs.1500/ to 2500/ there which was meet my budget. We had already searched on internet & Decathlon also. The rate was high than Delhi cant’s rate. We started searching for other staffs like socks, gloves etc. But still, I had the dilemma of whether I would be selected or not.

At about 6:15 pm my mobile beeped. I ignored mobile beeping… I knew either some SMS or some emails in the inbox was waiting for me… within 10 mins I got a call from LO Narayan Kutty, that you need to come MEA office next day before 9 am…I asked him regarding my confirmation, but he told me till that time he did not receive the final list. Actually, when I left ITBP hospital, I came to know one person was rejected due to high BP. So maybe there was a chance to change in the final list.

It is my natural tendency to check all messages as well as Whats-app, Facebook, and even mailbox whenever I unlock my mobile. When I opened my mailbox, my heartbeat was stopped. It was the email that I received from MEA, that my application was confirmed. I was on the ninth cloud. I had no confusion now. Thank God!!! Thanks to you for the selection.

We bought a backpack for Rs. 2500/- On our return we should be bought some thermals. We accidentally visited the shop whose owner also visited Kailash Mansarovar previously. He suggested buying gloves, waist-pouch, thermal, mouth cover, chest cover. He gave us a good number of poly paper to wrap all the clothes. He suggested to wrap each cloth by polybag, then put everything inside a large polybag & put the bag into your backpack. Also reminded us to carry a small bag which must able to carry your 1-2 days belongings. This suggestion helped me a lot in the future.

We reached home at about 10pm. Till the time, I did not inform my mom. Actually, she always thought it would be the strenuous trek and I would be alone there as my hubby was not going with me. Also, the cost was too high for a middle-class person like me as she knew I did not have much savings. But this was the time when I had to inform her. I called her & told her that my application for Kailash Mansarovar was accepted and we would start from the day after tomorrow. I know it was like a sudden hailstorm for her. But she took it coolly.
