My Preparation
After filling the registration form, I was waiting for the Draw date. Set multiple alerts on google to get the date. On 8th May, I got the email from MEA, that my name is selected but in ‘waiting List Batch No:7’. The email was one of the precious gifts on my birthday.
When I was searching for the information on the net I came to know the one of my office colleague from Bangalore office did the same expedition last year. I saved his contact no. After getting the email from MEA I was on the ninth cloud. Though I did not know whether I would be confirmed or not but was too much excited. At first, I talk to my manager regarding leave. Then ping my colleague Abhishek. He told me I would be confirmed & asked to start preparation. As I was on the 7th batch waiting list, so I have enough time for preparation. The 1st Batch would leave Delhi on 11th June & 7th batch would start on 7th July.
I got the information from the net to complete the trek successfully I must start preparation like:
But you know, I am the laziest person. I had only started walking only 2 Km. Though I walked 1+1 km walking every day since the last 5yrs, I had just increased the amount only 1 km & thought I had enough time & increasing 1 to 10 is not logical.
I had talked to Abhishek approx every day. He suggested me on the very first day, that I should submit the confirmation token amount Rs.5000/ if I was very sure to participate in this expedition. For your information, I am not a very religious person & not believe that if I visit God’s home, then only I will be blessed. So I will mention this as ‘expedition’. Abhishek gave me some contact number of KMVN person asked me to talk to them regarding the batch change. As per him, I must opt the 1st batch as they receive the royal treatment everywhere. Anyway, I submitted the token money & was waiting for the confirmation from MEA
As the day passed but did not receive any email from MEA. I was so much crazy, that I used to check the email even at 1am, hoping some ‘cron’ will run & I would get the email (developer cannot think above coding).
It was 1st of June. Was mad for MEA email. Sent query through Twitter, Facebook.Sent enormous email. But Did not get any response. Called MEA customer care (011-24300655) hundred times in a day. Thank God! it was a recorded system. Otherwise, they will surely give up the job. I got confirmation from MEA customer care, that my waiting list number is 56, so it is not possible to get confirmation. It depressed me. I wanted to cry loudly but I knew this would not solve my problem. I talked to the KMVN person Mr. Girdhar Manral ji. He gave me some others number. But no one assured me that I will be get selected. Abhishek constantly encouraged me that ‘waiting list does not matter.you go at DHLI & you will surely be get confirmed’. But I did not find any ray of hope.
In the meantime, I had started the running practice. I walked approx 6Km per day. I had started morning walk approx 4-5km. My husband knew me better than me. Every time he asked how many days I would continue it. I was silent. I started to use stairs instead of lift (in my office). Sometimes I went 1st floor to 8th floor twice using stairs less than 5 mins. Yoga & Pranayam is not my cup of tea. Though I started meditation, but I found that instead of meditation, sleep is better. So every time I was ending my meditation with a sound sleep!!
One day, I was talking one of the customer care people of MEA. When he told me there is no chance of confirmation, I was so desperate that I asked him ‘Let me know the option to get confirmation. You must know the option.’ I don't know in my voice, maybe it was so pure that it touched the person. He told me to visit DHLI on medical test day of 7th batch, I would surely get selected. It was the ray of hope. I don't want to lose it. I again called Girdhar ji. He gave me Rajesh’s (another KMVN person from Delhi) number. I called him. He told me that 1st 2 batch is full. Try to come after 3rd batch medical test at DHLI. It was 5th June. Abhishek insisted me to take chance for 1st batch. I took a deep breath & think little bit rationally.
I asked myself these questions:
I was so desperate, I applied for ‘advance salary’ from office. Practically I did not have any confirmation, but I convinced myself that I must get the confirmation.
