Rest day at Taklakot

29th June 2018: Today was our rest day. We woke up approx 7am (CST) Today we provided noodles for breakfast. After breakfast, we decided to go to the nearby market. We girls (Soma, Shruti, Netra & me) went to the market for window shopping.

It is a small town with a picturesque background. There was a middle height mountain just beside our hotel, The Purang Hotel. There were some small caves were visible which we suspected, was created by air erosion. There were small shops on both sides of the road. We also found the ABC bank (Agricultural Bank of China), the post office & the administration office also.

Shruti & Soma bought some Peach fruit which costs approx 24 yuan. (1 Chinese Yuan = 10.50 INR (approx)) After some time we met Ritesh & Rishi Ji(yatris from our group) Who brought a jacket of 49 Yuan. Shruti also bought some kesar which took 12 Yuan for 10gm (actually they use other units which we thought equivalent to the gram. But later came to know it was less than a gram.) Though Shruti, as well as the shop owner lady, claimed this was pure saffron, it did not seem to be pure. I did not say anything as I am not an expert for such a thing.

We then roamed several shops. Shruti bought a trekking hat of 19 Yuan. We went to the far end of the road. We came back at about 12:30pm(CST). Then I spent some time sitting in front of the reception & doing some chit-chat with others.

Our lunch was served at approx 1:30pm (CST) As desert it contained kheer(something made with rice, milk & sugar) along with carrot & apples as the salad.

After lunch I was again sitting near the reception, Shree Ram Ji (one of the yatri, from our group) asked me to go with him to the nearby market. I was happily agreed. He told me silver was quite cheap here & it did not tend to black. I had no idea about the price of Silver & I am not interested in the jewelry. So I did not search for this thing. On our way, he told me that his sons asked him to buy silver jewelry as much as possible. So he needed my help to help him to select such jewelry. We went nearby shop & when we started bargaining, Ritesh, Mohit along with Anshul entered the shop. As the shop owner found lots of prospective customers, she did not want to give discount & rigid to her price. We asked Ritesh to go outside & if she agreed to decrease the silver rate we would buy his selected piece also with the decreased rate. But you know he was a little bit rigid to leave the store. He repeatedly told that he would not say any words but still stuck in the shop. The shop owner lady was lastly agreed to sell the silver in 550 Yuan per Kg (Rs. 50000/Kg) & agreed to accept Indian currency.

We choose 10 silver bangles of different designs. At last, we asked her to give us boxes for each one. She was confused & showed us gift box for which we need to pay extra. We asked her to give a normal box, the gift boxes were not needed. Do you think all these conversations were in the same language? Certainly not. We know Hindi & English but they know only Chinese or Tibetian. So imagine how did all these bargainings were happening & think who bargained 😂 Yes It was Me!!!!✋

Now at the end, the shop owner was too much exhausted & wanted to get rid of us. So she gave us 3 Tibetian doors hanging bell & she gave me one earring which cost was about 4-5 yuan (Anshul confirmed this, actually when he asked the price the owner told him). I asked Shriram Ji to take this also. But he told me, as the shop owner gave this to me, so I should take it. He told me it was a gift from his side also. I thanked him from bottom of my heart.

Then we roamed some other shop along the road & then came back to our hotel for lunch. After lunch, I took a little nap.

I forget to mention one thing here the sunlight is available from 6:30-7am to 8-8:30pm. Afternoon at about 5:00pm(CST) we 3 bong girls Soma, Enakshi & me, decided to go to the opposite of our hotel. We started walking. After a few meters, we found an awesome view. We thanked each of us as well as the God, to take this troll.

We walked along with river (it is either Karnali or Tsangpo, I am not sure). We found mountains, not so high, on both sides of the cemented road. There was some flat land from where we could view the opposite side of the river. Due to air erosion, there were lots of cave in those mountains. But the view was awesome. The mountains colours were reddish brown. It seemed to me that all the mountains were drawn by someone in his leisure time. The clouds are so cute. the cemented road looked like never-ending. After approx 1km there was a 'T' point. One goes to some village another went in some unknown way. We decided to take the unknown side. There was a little bit high spot from where we could view the village side. There was a chorten was visible near the village along with some administration offices. Two jeeps of local people crossed us who had greeted us with a smiling face. As our language was not the same so they offered us the left by hand gesture but we declined. though I liked to take the lift but not my friends. So we walked. We found a small hillock. Soma was the first person who tried to climb it. I decided to find what else could be found at the opposite of it. I found nothing there. So I also decided to climb the hillock. There were lots a loose pebble, due to which climbing was not comfortable.

But anyhow, we at last, able to reach the top from where we got the 360 views. It was awesome. Words were not enough to express the beauty. We gave sometimes to ourselves to absorb the beauty. Every time I felt that I am very lucky to view the scene. Our smiling face was the proof that how much happy we were.

We took lots of pictures but those pictures were not able to describe the real charm. Might be we were not a good photographer. It was approx 7:30pm. So we decided to go back to our hotel.

Returning time was less. We made some silly jocks with each other. We crossed some Chinese army chap who was running as part of their daily routines. We noticed no one has the smiling face when we greeted them with a smiling face. Do you not think it is a cruel behavior 😭 and we are young girls yaar!!! 😎

After the dinner, our LO asked us for a meeting. But before the meeting, Manish & some yatris especially the Gujarati group were furious. The talked in high voice against the LO. Though it is quite natural this type of quarrel within 60 unknown people, after all we are Indian who liked to fight every moment without any logical cause 😈

Someone Named by Bhagwan Ji( he was the great conflict to his name) complained as he did not get bed tea in his bed Here tea was served at about 9Am(CST). Also, the biscuit was missing with the tea. So you think my dear friend, that these are the people who want to perform the most sacred Yatra to get the bless from Lord & wants the bed tea in their bed with cookies. I am not the religious person & not doing this as 'Yatra' but as an expedition so this should be my requirement. But as a trekker, I was happy with the basic facilities. Actually, everyone's attitude was as they were paying Rs. 1.5Lac so they must be treated with a VIP treatment. They forgot that we were not in a plain land where every facility would be available. We were approx 14,000 feet above sea level.

At last, our guide Suraj took the lead & his view was fabulous. Being a Tibetan, his respect for Mother India touched me a lot. He told all of us that we are the representative of India. But our behavior violates the behavior of a religious yatri. I personally felt shame for the behavior of yatris. Suraj's view touched me a lot & at that moment I was being his follower.

Suraj declared that next day we would start our journey for Kailash parikrama at 11am (CST). After some chit-chat & phone call (aka Whats-app call) we went to bed approx 11pm(CST)
